Katie Holmes Settles Lawsuit with Star Magazine
Katie Holmes received an apology and a settlement from Star magazine for implying that she abuses drugs.
Holmes, who started her Hollywood career on Dawson’s Creek, sued American Media Inc. for $50 million for Star’s January cover story, which read “Katie Drug Shocker.”
The wife of Tom Cruise, who recently starred as Jackie Kennedy Onassis in The Kennedys, accepted a settlement for her defamation lawsuit according to her representative. “While the monetary terms of the settlement are confidential, American Media has issued a rare public apology to Ms. Holmes,” her representative’s statement to EW.com said.
“Star did not intend to suggest that Ms. Holmes was a drug addict or was undergoing treatment for a drug addiction,” the apology reads in Star’s current issue. “Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misperception and will be making a substantial donation to charity on Ms. Holmes’ behalf for any harm that we may have caused.”
